Bobby Nicholas - IMR Presents Bobby Nicholas (1976 Full Album)
\"IMR Presents Bobby Nicholas\" is the only know album by the singer Bobby Nicholas. Released on the Morgantown, West Virginia label International Masterpiece records, it's one of two known releases on the label. The other one being a Canzone Napoletana (best classified as traditional Italian music) release by an artist named Aldo Landi. Coincidentally enough, also served as the engineer on this album, which could suggest that this was the owner of the label.
To add to the limited connected information from this release, it was recorded at Robal Recording Studio in Miami, Florida. As of this writing, the only other group documented to have recorded there is a Calypso group from the Bahamas named Freeport City Sound.
With a placement on the cover reminiscent of David Van DePitte's placement on the front cover to Marvin Gaye's \"What's Going On\", Robby Poitevin is featured with the credit of \"Arranged And Executed By\". Looking through the other credits Robby, it shows that he was well known as an film composer for many Spaghetti Westerns (European produced western films). As to if this also relates to the instrumentation on this album is unknown, as there are no credits for who played the synthesizers or drums on the packaging. Which considering that those are the only two instruments on the album is strange, in addition to all the instruments besides the drums is the synthesizer being layered. Altogether yielding a unexpected bass-heavy experience!
This whole album is comprised of covers, ranging from tracks by well known popular artists. Such as Willie Nelson (Stardust), Diana Ross (Theme From Mahogany), Glen Campbell (Rhinestone Cowboy), The Carpenters (Solitaire), and Roy Clark (Come Live With Me). The choice of (then) contemporary popular songs of predominantly country and pop artists combined with an overall relaxed lounge-like feel presents a unique experience.
