For as long as I can remember, my dream has always been to become a professional drummer.
I have always known deep down inside that this is what makes me truly happy, and thats because when I’m playing the drums nothing else matters to me. I have no sense of time and all thoughts go out the window as I truly live life in the present moment.
For me, drumming is meditation; a time for myself in which I can completely let go of all my worries and just express my creativity through the art of rhythm.
The Handpan:
Whilst I was travelling around Indonesia I took £250 separate to my travelling funds which I had saved to buy myself a surf board.
Long story short, I found the surf board I wanted and had my money in my pocket ready to buy it from the surf shop I had previously stumbled across that morning… This is where I saw someone playing a Handpan… sat right outside of the very same surf shop.
I couldn’t resist, and sat down next to the Musician. After watching him play for what must have been an hour at least, I finally got the chance to ask him what it was he was playing and where he had found such an amazing instrument…. this is where it gets weird:
He told me that he had bought the ‘hang’ from Ubud, which was only an hour away from where we were staying by scooter. He then proceeded to tell me that he had bought his Handpan for £250. This is when I realised that my destiny had taken over my reality. This was the opportunity I had been waiting for, and it had found me. So, I scrapped the idea of buying a surf board and set off to Ubud the next day where I found my own Handpan. You may not believe in fait, or destiny or any of that; but I am 100% certain that this happened to me for a reason, and that is because my purpose in life is to help others through music. Since returning home from Indonesia I have become obsessed with my hang drum, naturally. I play it every day, and have created a large amount of original songs. For this reason I decided to acquire all the kit I would need to record my own music…
It took me just over a month to record the album however the songs have been a progressive learning curve ever since I first got the Handpan.
If you fancy something new then please feel free to give the album a listen. I would recommend listening to it at the end of a hard day, laid down in bed with headphones. Either that, or as a soundtrack for yoga / meditation. The album was made to help people relax. :)
This album is offered to you for free, however to enable me to continue on my artistic journey, any donations would be most welcome and very much appreciated. If you would like to donate,
