THE DIMPS is a hybrid of two 60s \"Beat Groups\", the IMPS and Decca recording band the DIMPLES. Re-formed in Lincolnshire, United Kingdom for the 2000 Millennium Megabash gig at the Scunny Baths Hall, the band has since recorded three CDs of vintage 50s & 60s Rock'n'roll, R&B and \"Mod\" classics.
All the songs have an authentic 60s vibe and are typically those played by British bands on the club and dance-hall circuit during the 1960s beat-boom. The original R&B based Dimples were part of the infamous Don Arden \"Galaxy\" stable in Carnaby Street along side Small Faces, Move Nashville Teens, Amen Corner and Ossie Osborne
The group regularly worked the Marquee, Flamingo, Speakeasy, 100 Club and all other major London blues haunts. Also the University & College Circuit, Mecca and Top Rank Ballrooms, All-nighters, Twisted Wheel in Manchester, Golden Torch at Hanley, 76 Club Burton, Nottingham's Boat Clubs, Newcastle's Go-Go & Quay Club, Hull Skyline, Sheffield City Hall & Esquire Club etc. There were countless others but good old Jazz Workshop where it all started also deserves a special mention.
The first live radio gig was at Tiles in Oxford Street on \"Ready Steady Radio\" with DJ Pete Murray. Live TV debut on Granada's Scene at Six Thirty. The first single was unrepresentative of the band and released under protest on Decca after turning down \"Hi Ho Silver Lining\" which none of us liked either. The B-side \"My Heart Is Tied To You\" was much better and is now something of a Northern Soul & Mod Circuit classic. The Dimples eventually evolved into harmony soul band Gospel Garden (Camp label) before finally becoming Methuselah (Elektra). Methuselah then splintered into Distant Jim (Negram), Steamhammer (CBS) and Amazing Blondel (Island).
Personnel - Craig Austin (Guitar & Vocals), Bill Gibson (Bass), Fred Havercroft (Vocals), Stuart Smith (Drums), Greg Tomlinson (Guitar & Vocals)
