2014 marks the return of Black Strobe. The group led by producer and singer Arnaud Rebotini released their Going Back Home ep in the spring, with two new tracks and a cover version of Rufus Thomas’ Tiger Man. All three marry blues, synth loops and disco-not-disco rhythms with the crooner vocals of Arnaud Rebotini.
Black Strobe inhabit a world of modern westerns, melancholia and style, catching the attention of Martin Scorsese – who used their track Blood Shot Eyes to soundtrack the trailer for The Wolf Of Wall Street – and Dior, who took the group’s cover version of I’m A Man as the backdrop for an Eau Sauvage cologne ad campaign.
A new ep Broken Phone Blues is coming in September with two tracks: Broken Phone Blues, an electronic disco-blues whirlwind with rock ‘n’ roll leanings, and In The Ghetto, an Elvis classic that Arnaud Rebotini has stripped down and radically changed. For vinyl addicts, both tracks will feature on a limited edition 7”.
The new ep is a taster for the new album Godforsaken Roads due at the end of September, the second Black Strobe album after the release of Burn Your Own Church in 2006.
