You thought this would be Dolphin Shoals, didnt you? Well, HA, gotcha!

This collaboration started after I saw this random video called The Mario Kart Lick from some guy on YouTube named Saxologic. It was making its way around YouTube at the time, and I thought it was awesome that a lick with a relatively high degree of technical requirements was becoming a meme! Soon after, Saxologic posted a video teaching the lick to others, and demonstrated himself playing it multiple keys. This guy was the real deal, so I only thought it fitting to bring him on and make a Mario Kart cover with him! Ive already covered Dolphin Shoals (and Ive technically already covered Rainbow Road but lets ignore that fact lol), so I thought Rainbow Road would be a fun tune for the both of us to blow on. After settling some great-related complications, we recorded, and Saxologic did a great job! Im glad another saxophonist has become part of the video game music community!

I think Ive told my own personal story about Rainbow Road a few times, but I figure I might as well do it again on this video! I used to play Mario Kart 64 a lot with my dad after dinner when I was a kid. At this point in my life, I was probably about 8 or 9, and I wasnt very good at Mario Kart at the time. There were times where Id get really unlucky on Rainbow Road due to a mix of hitting the chain chomps, banana peels, or getting red shelled. Sometimes, Id fall so far behind that I didnt think there was much point in still racing since I wasnt going to win. One time this happened, and my dad told me you can never give up on Rainbow Road! That advice has stuck with me to this day, with big challenges and projects taking the place of Rainbow Road in my life. Good driving and drifting will take you far, I guess!

I am ALSO very excited to introduce a new instrument in this video! This is the first video Ive filmed with my new electric organ! Ive been playing a large electric organ during church services this summer, and one of the members of this church had an organ that they were giving away. I took up this generous organ donor on their offer, acquiring the necessary tools to transport this thing (seriously, its incredibly heavy for its size), and finally moved it into a corner in the house I live in! Its seriously so much fun to play with. It can get really loud when the volume pedal is up all the way, its got a few different tremolo settings, many tones and draw bars, and fun pedals, too! I really wanted to incorporate it into a video before leaving back to Boston for college, and I thought this video would be a great time to do so. This mix ended up a lot more EDM-y and punchy than some of my other mixes, but I think that works very well! I was trying to emulate some mixes from the band Knower, one of my favorite weird, eclectic blends of jazz, electronic music, and funk. Theyre super.
