He later became a professional Trumpet Player and played for The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Sadlers Wells Ballet and Festival Ballet.

Harry Barlow was Besses MD 1922-1927
Harry was born and raised in Besses o’ th’ Barn in the 1860’s
Harry was a student of Stand Grammar School for Boys where he learned to play Euphonium
His talent was noticed, and he was given lessons by Alexander Owen who became MD at Besses Band in 1884
Owen offered the teenage Harry the solo Euphonium seat at Besses in 1892 when JF Carter retired the position.
Harry turned down the offer and the seat was taken by Herbert (Tib) Scott
Harry soon after took up the position of Principal Tuba for the Hallé Orchestra and his career as a player was long and distinguished
