Al Ferrier first recorded the first version of this song for Eddie Shuler's Goldband label as 'Let's Go Boppin' Tonight' . A familiar story soon emerged as like so many other rock'n'roll artists with their label owners , Al soon became dismayed at Shuler's neglect of his career. Ferrier soon jumped at the chance to record for J D Millers better equiped studio in Louisiana. During 1956 and having already cut 'Let's Go Boppin' Tonight' with Shuler, Al was nervous about re-recording the song for a rival producer. So he recorded the song as 'Hey Baby'. The track was sold to Ernie Young's Excello label in Nasville and a rockabilly masterpiece was soon created. The Johnny Cash sounding flip 'I'm The Man' is a cool tune as well. A great two sider indeed !
