Dr. Philip Gehring (1925 - 2020) plays Schumann, Pachelbel, Barber, and Read on the Reddel Memorial Organ of The Chapel of the Resurrection (formerly VU Memorial Chapel) at Valparaiso University. Gehring was a professor of music at Valparaiso University from 1958 to 1988.
This album was recorded circa 1963, only four years after the Fred and Ella Reddel Memorial Organ was initially built and constructed by the Schlicker Organ Company, and before any modification was made to it by any other company. For the sake of archival purposes, I digitized this album so that it may be enjoyed by other musicians and enthusiasts. The VU Archive has posted videos on their YouTube channel using audio from a previous digitization I made of this album, but their quality is quite poor. This subsequent digitization was made using a very clean record and fine equipment, so that the sound could be reproduced as well as possible. Most of the noise, distortion, and hiss in the recording is a result of the original recording equipment and not the digitization process.
Equipment used in the digitization process:
Rega Planar 2 (2016) Turntable
Pioneer SX1000-TW (1970) Receiver
Audacity Audio Software (Open Source)
Tracklist:
Fugues on the Name \"BACH\", Robert Schumann

Wondrous Love: Variations on a Shape-Note Hymn, S. Barber - 25:32
