Sentience is a concept album inspired by all things cyberpunk, films such as Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, The Fifth Element, Ready Player One, games such as Deus Ex, and even series such as Netlix's Altered Carbon.
Over the course of 11 tracks, it paints the soundscape for the journey of a nameless drone, living a monotonous existence in a dystopian future where he takes a deep dive into a virtual world full of life, and assumes the handle \"Zer0\". There he finds more than he expected as he falls in love with Cyd(who unbeknown to him at first, is an AI).
After becoming aware of what she is, he begins to question the validity of his own existence in the real world when he can be who he wants and do what he wants in VR; unable to weigh up the choice of keeping himself grounded in reality where the unsavoury truth is real, or commit to VR where all the joy in his life is simply a simulation.
The Overseer, the all powerful chairman of the corporation who's dark shadow is cast over everything in the real world, becomes aware of Zer0's negligence to his work duties and places a contract to collect Zer0's life as payment for time owed.
After a chase spanning through both realities, Zer0 is captured, beaten, tortured and finally left on death's doorstep but not before Cyd can reach out for help from a mutual friend who can help Zer0.
By the time he's found, Zer0 is too far gone to make any kind of earthly recovery and commits to transferring his consciousness into the VR world, which answers the question of his existence as this process kills his physical body; after which he's forever bound in the virtual world as a Sentient program freed from the shackles of a painfully mortal existence.
