These canadian guys from Thunder Bay, Ontario were known in their early days as The Vandals. Larry Breiland (lead guitar, vocals), Orville Santa (guitar, vocals, harmonica), Rick Baran (bass,), Aldon Norhaugen (keyboards, vocals) and Dave Verrill (drums) formed the band. They changed the name to NRG in 1968, Dave Dahl replacing Baran at the same time. They recorded at DMG Sound Studio (the manager was Don Grashey) songs for a TV show in spring of 1968 : Santa's \"Bird Collector\" and a cover of \"Get Outta My Life Woman\". Quickly after they returned into the studio to record their first 45 which was issued in 1969 : \"Went Home Today\"/\"Everybody Do Their Things\" (Columbia C4-2873). The quite pretty \"Went Home Today\" and the flip were written by DMG songwriter John Jordan and Tom Horricks (for the flip). The same year Santa and Norhaugen left and were replaced by Bruce Anderson (keyboards, vocals) and Ron Specht (lead vocals). They went on to release their second single in late 1969 : \"Witchcraft\" (Dahl, Brieland)/\"My Shady Friend\" (Dahl) (C4-2942) was issued in 1970. Their immediatly went back in the studio to record their third single : \"Take Me Back Home\" (Santa)/\"It All Comes Back To Me\" (Dahl, Brieland) (C4-2966). In summer of 1970 Grashey offered to them an opportunity to record a LP. The band was unprepared and unfocussed and recordings were never issued. A last 45 was issued on Gaiety \"To Be Back Home\"/\"The Magic Man\" (Dahl) (G-741) under the name NRG in 1970. The band used to record their performances and a tape has survived but remains unreleased.
