Trombonist Rico Rodriguez was born in Kingston in 1933 and emigrated to the U.K. in the early 60s. He has played in all different styles in his 50 years of music, from pre-ska boogie to jazz and pop. In the 1970s he finally came to the fore with album releases in England, including involvement with Britain's pop-ska band the Specials. Rico is a quite and sincere Rasta musician whose compositions can always be counted on for solidity and integrity. \"Midnight in Ethiopia\" is a good example of a reggae instrumental at its finest. The horns have echoes of jazz and salsa and tinges of reggae's distant musical relatives.
