Toots & the Maytals' international breakthrough hit that became one the first ever global reggae hits when on 9 January 1970, it made the UK charts, where it peaked at Number 47.
First recorded by the trio of Frederick 'Toots' Hibbert, Henry 'Raleigh' Gordon
and Nathaniel 'Jerry' Matthias in 1969 for Leslie Kong's Beverley's Records, the record was issued in the UK by Trojan Records soon after on the company's primary Trojan label.
Penned by lead singer, Hibbert, the song was later covered by numerous acts, most famously the Specials and Amy Winehouse, while Kylie Minogue recorded a version with the Wiggles in 2009, to raise money for UNICEF.
Featured in numerous films and TV series, the original version most recently was played in the 2018 documentary, 'Rudeboy: the Story of Trojan Records'.
