Suzanne was the youngest of three children of lawyer Percy and his wife May Botterell. Sue became a well known model but also sang in society circles, occasionally on radio and on a handful of records including this HMV from 1933 accompanied by a small Ray Noble group with Max Goldberg on trumpet.
It is perhaps the most poignant of all the many inter-war \"maybe\" songs of unrequited love. An Irving Berlin masterpiece and Suzanne puts the song over very well indeed.
After Percy's death in the 1950s, Suzanne's mother married the celebrated artist William J Leech having first met him in 1919. Incidentally, there is a portrait of young Suzanne painted by Leech from around 1920.
