My brand new single, along with my musical partner, Fran Curry, is an inspirational song called ‘Wine into Water’. Fran, as well as being a musician, presents the talk show on Tipp FM and I heard a series of radio features he did with men and women who battled various addictions. It seemed to me that the common denominator in their recovery was the notion of handing over their recovery to a higher power.
Fran and I discussed this many times going to and from gigs and he told me of a song that a friend of his had recorded many years ago called ‘Wine into Water’. The moment I heard the song I knew we had to record it as a duet. The song was written by T Graham Brown and it is one of those very special songs that only come around once in a blue moon. I found singing the song in studio to be very emotional but very much a labour of love.
Fran put together an amazing bunch of musician friends for the recording including Dave Keary of The Van Morrison Band, Philip Donnelly who has worked with all the greats including Nanci Griffith, John Prine and Johnny Cash, James Blenerhassett currently in the Daniel O Donnell Band and the great Danny Sherrin master of the backing vocals. With Fran on production and keyboards I feel we have done justice to this wonderful song.
I would like to dedicate this song to the wonderful people who have battled and won against addiction but more importantly to the beautiful human beings that are now fighting that fight.
