Besses o’ th’ Barn Band recorded a double sided 78 RPM Disc in 1912 to commemorate the Titanic tragedy
The Band is Conducted by Alexander Owen
The two hymns played on either side of the Record are ~
Nearer My God To Thee
Fierce Raged the Tempest
British Brass Bands were all raising money for the “Disaster Fund” just as Besses were
I wonder what the Besses Players were thinking as the Band was getting ready to Tour Canada and North America later in 1912
There was also a recent Besses tour that may have focussed the players minds
Besses had already been on Extensive Tours that included two 18 Month World Tours in the early 1900’s
The first Besses World Tour commenced 25th July 1906 from Liverpool Docks as Besses boarded the
“SS Majestic”
The ships Captain was a certain
“Edward John Smith”
and was owned by the
“White Star Line”
6 years later in 1912, the White Star Line announced the Maiden Voyage of yet another of their “Great Ships\".
Sailing from Southampton at Noon April 10th 1912, was the Largest most Luxurious Liner ever and Her name was
\"Titanic\",
and she was to be under the command of their most prized Captain....
“Edward John Smith”.
