Paul Whiteman & his Orchestra - San - 1924

Playing Next: Class Action - Weekend (1983) - acapella
Random Page  /  Random Song

The most popular of the american dance orchestras of the 1920's. Paul Whiteman (1890-1967) made hundreds of recordings for Victor from 1920 onwards. Many of the pre-1925 records were straight dance music, but this particular version of \"San\", recorded 9 June 1924, is one of the hotter sides.

The obscure sounding instrument halfway through the selection is a sarrusophone, played by one of the band's reed-players.

Paul Whiteman recorded another version of \"San\" in 1928. That version included Bix Beiderbecke and Frankie Trumbauer among others.
