The avant-garde/free jazz/instrumental hip hop group Contortion: Assault.



\"An experiment of freely improvised jazz and hip-hop. Lightbulb Language features a combination of solo improvisations (piano - Joe Richards, sopranino saxophone - Martin Archer, guitar - John O'Brien) recorded irrespective and unaware of how the other musicians involved were sounding; this raw material was then sampled and looped by Joe Richards at various intervals against regular (and occasionally polyrhythmic) hip-hop beats. The project stands as an experiment into how the controlled repetition of something completely atonal can be defined and rendered subsequently tonal by a recognizable 'beat'.\"
