These videos are designed for guitar beginners or those with only limited guitar knowledge. They use simple chord shapes as much as possible and do not necessarily represent the way in which the song was originally played. They are designed as practice tools to supplement your other learning methods. Information is provided on screen for both right and left-handed players!
This song is very straightforward in terms of chords, but it's the little alterations to them which make it come to life. The song starts with a riff that plays around with the basic E minor chord shape, and all you need to do is add and remove fingers from it. Fran Healy also chooses to play a C/G instead of a standard C major shape, and the lovely Dadd4/A. The G chords are also slightly altered, but you can play the whole song using the basic Em, C, D and G chords and it will sound great.
The strumming pattern is quite involved and is much more about feel than being precise. It's a fast 16th note pattern that relies on emphasising some strums more than others
