ALBUM DESCRIPTION:
I shot the sheriff:
This is a song that symbolises the tough life a new-and-aspiring gangster might have to face as he starts out his new life on the streets. This is shown through the instrumentation. I played all the instruments in this first song live, which I have never done before, just like a newly-admitted thug, I must learn a whole new lifestyle.
Dad... The police came again:
This track shows the mundane, sometimes even monotonous lifestyle of a hardened life-worn thug. The build up represents the rising action and excitement he has in early life, then the drop hits, and he realises just how empty his life truly is.
Shot in the hands:
This track holds a special place in my heart. I was livin' on the streets for most of my life, and this track is an emotional re-telling of just one of my stories from the hood, delivered via an emotion-packed freestyle. This story is about me and my homies, walking down the street, when all of a sudden they where all shot by police. After that, I told my gang to walk around town with our hands up, our gang sign would be one of submission and peace, in respect of our fallen brethren. However, after another group of my boys where shot by police men, I gave up. They where shot in the hands, and they had their hands up. I went to the store to try and get my mind off things, but sadly the store-clerk didn't sell milk to people of my ethnicity. Injustice at it's finest, shown through song.
Daddy I shot a man:
This is a track about my very first gang-fight. throughout the entire song, there is a constant sense of action, be it a rising action, or a full-blown climax. This symbolises my emotions during the war. Yet at the end of the day, the piano soloist comes in to remind me that, \"I shot a man\" and I now have to deal with that.
Death By the hands:
This happy-chippy tune comes in, to remind you all that, even though the life of a gangster might be full of turmoil and death, we need to keep smiling and be happy that we're still alive, and we still have each-other, even if our number shift, and change for the worse, we need to remmber that we're a family and families stick together.
Johnny:
Named after my mentor, Johnny: this song portrays the emotions felt once you reach the top. all the struggles you've been through, and everything you've had to endure, all of them become simply part of your past. This song was written when me and the boys had just robbed a bank, we felt unstoppable, and we where rich too.
Kill me please:
Insanity, Insanity is what is represented in this track. Loss, Mistrust, Failure, You once had it all, yet you realise you can't stay on top forever.
Exaction by way of death:
The final battle, the last stand, a rival gang came to take away all that me and my boiz worked for all these years. And they where winning.
The best we could do is fight with all we had, to try and defend out home, our family.
Many where killed, even more injured. Yet still we fought on, with every ounce of strength we had left. The battle raged on for days, yet somehow, we won. The fight over, I come to my senses, and realise. I, am the only one left alive, my ecstatic joy turns to sorrow, turns to insanity. The fight is won, but was it worth the price?
