From the Rick Colom Collection: The topical 1933 Broadway revue “As Thousands Cheer” (Moss Hart, book; Irving Berlin, music) ran for an impressive 400 performances and starred Helen Broderick, Clifton Webb, Marilyn Miller (her final stage appearance) and Ethel Waters. In addition to the four titles included on this Whiteman medley, the songs “Heat Wave” “Harlem On My Mind” and “Lonely Heart” were also included in the original stage score.

This 12-inch 78rpm platter was one of RCA Victor’s special ‘picture disc’ releases with images covering the entire playing surface of both sides. To construct these, a shellac core was sandwiched between two illustrated sheets, which were then coated with clear plastic upon which the recording was pressed.
