The New Brunswick Song (We've Got Dulse)

Playing Next: Goat - I Sing In Silence
Random Page  /  Random Song

This song is dedicated to the memory of Stompin' Tom Connors.
It is my \"ode\" to life in New Brunswick, Canada. It was inspired by Stompin' Tom, Johnny Cash and The Dead Milkmen. It's a cheeky look at what it is like to live in a have-not province and how we can sometimes get a little jealous of our neighbours. It is also a bit of a warning to our politicians that we are a proud lot that want to make the most of our resources and not give them away. I take shots at everyone but it's all in good fun. The lyrics pretty much say it all. Here they are;

The New Brunswick Song (We Got Dulse),
by Douglas C. Schwartz May 4 2010

Verse 1
I'm tired of Nova Scotia and all the things they got,
But in the province of New Brunswick, We haven't got a lot,
PEI's got bright red mud and girls with hair of red
But we have got none of that, it really makes me mad

In picturesque New Brunswick, we don't have a decent slogan,
A few movie stars and athletes but no one new like Seth Rogan,
The province of New Brunswick, don't have the finest weather
But least we got the rare candy with the consistency of leather

Chorus
We've Got Dulse, We've Got Dulse
Some people just don't understand, they haven't got a pulse,
We've Got Dulse,
We've got Dulse,Dulse Dulse,
Dulse, Dulse, Dulse, Dulse, Dulse.

Verse 2
I'm sick of NFLDrs, they talk about their OIL
They used to get their oil from fish but now from ocean soil,
They don't like people from away, but we're 2 doors down,
But we got dulse, hey that's for sure, don't say it with a frown.

We got trees but not too tall, we have moose and black bear too
We've got the finest beavers that ever turned a screw,
Geese and ducks and eagles fly and coyotes hunt the wood,
If you got these things in your backyard, you'd think it mighty good

Verse 3
Theres a lot here in New Brunswick, nature to explore,
We haven't found an oil field yet, but we've got tidal bore.
Our politics are frightful, premiers who should hear.
They've caused us some embarrassment, good thing their's Moosehead Beer!!!

We got long bridges, well a half of one, goes out over the sea
I heard all about it on my satellite TV,
A red treat sure as the weather, and it tastes like salty leather
We got bills that we can't pay, but we got lots and lots of dulse.

Verse 4
I'm trying to convey, that I'm proud this is my home
Just tryin to make a living wage, no need to weep and moan.
We've got birds and we've got whales and we got fricot stew,
Got lobsters, scallops, squirrels, coyotes and turkey vultures too...

I hope that you understand I'm not leavin' for the west
Not leavin' for the Eastern states, I couldn't care a less,
I like it here in New Brunswick, this place ain't got a lot
But sit right down, I'll tell you now, that this is what we got
