Max Fisher & His California Orchestra โ€“ So Tired, Fox-Trot (Sizemore โ€“ Little) with Vocal Choruc by Johnny Murray, Columbia 1928 (USA)

NOTE: When you listen to such wonderful dance recordings as this from the late 1920s, it's hard to believe that many of these incredible orchestras will soon disappear forever from the US musical map. The Max Fisher's dance band seems to be from California (or at least, having California in its name). In the late 1920s it recorded a couple of extraordinary dance sides in excellent studios (I know the ones from Columbia) and then disappeared forever around 1929. The jazzy & happy โ€œcollegiate soundโ€ of most of these recordings indicates that Max Fisherโ€™s Orchestra may have belonged to the multitude of the collegiate bands that overgrown American universities in the 1920s, especially in second half of the decade, when you wore the raccoon coats, the knickerbockers & letterman sweaters and danced Varsity Drag. Most of these orchestras did not survive the Great Depression and gave way to the swing era in the 1930s.
