I have been playing a TON of Ikenfell, a fantastic 2D RPG featuring music by Aivi & Surasshu of Steven Universe like this track. There's a huge diverse cast of fun characters, a lot of neat RPG battle elements that keep you in a bit of strategy and classic RPG mindsets, not to mention the music does a great job combining chiptune and analog styles together super well! I'm fortunate to also know a few of the performers on the OST, which more than motivated me to do at least one cover to start!
I wanted the arrangement to blend the acoustic guitar of the original with some proggier airy jams, so you'll notice a lot of subtle bass+drum grooves going on. I'm also really happy to have snuck a few chiptune synths in the mix, but most of all it's just such a fun track to play on a 7 string! To match I downtuned my acoustic's E to a dropped B and the end result is super nice. I also felt like it would really be nice to end the battle theme in a way that tributes the game, so I included a quick nod to both the main Ikenfell motif and the victory theme! It usually feels hard to arrange RPG battle music because of the fact its meant to be looped, so hopefully giving a bit of a rock/metal structure helps! Of course to get in the spirit of the game my friend MattAttack and I went into our local park safely and got one of my favorite looking videos to date out of it.
