In the spring of 1966 THE STEAMPACKET, a London R&B combo featuring Long John Baldry, Brian Auger, Rod Stewart, Vic Briggs and Jullie Driscoll, folded. By May Stewart had joined forces with organist Peter Bardens and fellow vocalist Beryl Marsden in a concerted attempt to recapture their excitement. After one single released in October, Stewart departed in early 1967 for the Jeff Beck Group. As such he was not featured on their second single, whose flipside was a smokin' instrumental led by Bardens' fiery Booker-T inspired organ, with chunky lead guitar from Phil Sawyer (who'd replaced John Morshead), solid bass from Dave Ambrose and pounding drums from Mick Fleetwood. It didn't add up to sales, though, and by the time summer came around they'd split for good. Bardens became a session man before forming VILLAGE, recording a solo album and then forming CAMEL, Sawyer joined SPENCER DAVIS, Ambrose joined BRIAN AUGER, Fleetwood formed FLEETWOOD MAC and Beryl Marsden joined the SHE TRINITY
