Condensed from Wikipedia: John Amadio (1883-1964) was born John Bell Taylor in New Zealand. His father died when he was one year old, and in 1890 his mother remarried. John's stepfather, Henry Amadio, was a carpenter and amateur flautist. John took on his name and began learning the flute. In 1900, the family moved to Sydney, and then to Melbourne in 1901, where Amadio gained his first position as a flautist. His career developed rapidly to the point where he performed with orchestras around the world and made a career as an international soloist and operatic accompanist. From 1919 to 1947, he was based in London touring with his second wife Florence Austral and accompanying other leading sopranos of the day. He then returned to Australia, where he remained for the rest of his life.
Amadio made a number of recordings. Briccialdi's 'Wind in the Trees' (recorded c February 1921) is an early example. It well demonstrates his fine technique, great assurance and a real sense of style.
