Recording dates of both late 1949 and March 1950 have been quoted for this and the also-posted flipside “Mambo No. 5.” Issued in the U.S. during the spring months of ’50, both tracks helped further the international reputation of Cuban-born Prado as the new “King Of The Mambo.” Originally issued as “(Que Rico) El Mambo,” the tune was further popularized that year in a recording by Dave Barbour, but with the altered title “Mambo Jambo,” by which it remains best-known.
