Hernan Cattaneo, John Tonks - July/Fereek, released 2010-07-01, Sudbeat Music, SB008

Sudbeat returns with its first release for the summer 2010, and its label chief Hernan Cattaneo who is providing the goodness. Teaming up once again with longtime production partner John Tonks, the pair deliver a beautiful pairing in the aptly titled 'July' and 'Fereek'.
Cattaneo & Tonks have been studio partners for six years and together have brought such stunning work as 'Warsaw', 'Sirocco' and 'Anime'. The pair also provided one of the standout remixes on the mighty Dessous package of Phonique ft. Erlend Oeye's 'For The Time Being'.
Both originals here show the duo at their very best. 'July' is a melodic and melancholic beauty. An understated yet driving bassline is our backbone, as the sparkling key riffs, Oboe and efx challenge each other. 'Fereek', as the title would suggest is a dirtier, techier offering. A rolling, driving bassline is overlaid with a delicate key riff, twisted synth stabs and percussion. A dramatic build and organ-lead break down, leads us back into the killer driving groove once again.
To remix 'July', Hernan has drafted in one of Argentina's brightest talents, Manuel Sofia. As Producer, Radio Show Host and Label Boss, Manuel is a very busy young man. His productions have seen their release on labels including Audiotherapy, Natura Sonoris, Sprout, Electribe and Global Underground and have found support from many of the world's elite. His weekly radio show is now in its second year and he owns the Noizen Music record label.
Manuel's mix of 'July' is a powerful mixture of melody and power. Its stripped intro belies the huge bassy synth line thats announces itself in style and works brilliantly to drive the track, backed by the beautiful oboe melody.
Lending his skills to the remix of 'Fereek' is UK producer Neil Quigley. Having been spotted by John Digweed and given the residency at the legendary Bedrock parties, Neil rapidly made a name for his stunning DJ sets. With releases and remixes already under his belt for Audio Therapy, Plastic City, Renaissance, Dessous and Urban Torque (A label with which he held a successful A&R position), plus a successful Renaissance mix compilation. Quigley is gaining a huge following for his band of 'electronic house with soul.'
Neil takes 'Fereek' on a very different path to the original. Losing the techy edge, he takes us deep with the smooth tones of a xylophone riff. Synth stabs appear and a popping synth melody trips the track further.
