Boyer made her first recordings with Dorsey in September of 1939, replacing the departed Edythe Wright.
“Darn That Dream” originated in the short-lived (13 performances) stage musical “Swingin’ The Dream,” which starred Louis Armstrong as “Bottom” in a modern-day adaptation of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Musical Supervisor for the play was none other than Benny Goodman, who performed in the production with his sextet and also made the top-selling recording of the song with his full band and vocalist Mildred Bailey.
Transferred from the original 78rpm: Victor 26433 - Darn That Dream (DeLange-Van Heusen) by Tommy Dorsey & his Orchestra, vocal by Anita Boyer, recorded November 24, 1939
