Decent NWOBHM effort invoking at times bands like Stormqueen, and Sweet Savage. Good mix of tracks with fast numbers like the opening title track, and ballad material in the form of Olivia. Its a shame so many acts of this genre either didnt release a proper album, or released just one. Luckily, several of these bands have had releases or demos grouped together in best-of format.
From the first track the guitar skills of one Jeff Summers become evident. A definite Hard-Rock feel is present, perhaps more than other NWOBHM acts. The first three tracks of the album especially bring out this feeling. The third track Take The Bottle has some strong 70s Rock subject matter, and feels somewhere between Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blitzkrieg. Track four One Night Stand keeps the classic hard rock subject matter coming, and seconds as a good vocal showcase of Danny Hynes, with solid vocal melodies. Mad Mad World is another winner: pro-rock subject matter with a rockin bass riff in the verses. Midnight Satisfaction is definitely a stand-out, offering everything a fan could hope for. Definitely in the hard rock anthem category, and with one of those choruses you want to belt out karaoke style. Olivia and Light of the World are the ballads of the album, the latter being a demo of considerable recording quality.
To conclude: Weapon is a pretty strong band well adept at song writing. I would place them more in the hard rock side of the genre, as opposed to the arguably more metal sounding bands (Satan et al). On the plus side, the album is well-recorded, even the demo tracks (9-12), which can be a problem with collecting NWOBHM bands. If looking for something from Weapon, this is the one, as it pretty much has all their stuff I believe. Its enjoyable, but definitely not in my top-ten records of the genre.
