The Carters first recorded this song in 1928 with just A.P. and Sara singing it as a duet. The 1935 version adds Maybelle's voice for three-part harmony and, in my view, is better for it. One of the most haunting records they ever made. Incidentally, THIS IS NOT THE INSPIRATION for Anna Kendrick's \"Cup Song.\" Such comparisons or references do not apply here.
