In 1978 Motown Sounds (a collection of Motown writers and musicians) released their solo album Space Dance. Space Dance is filled with funky disco grooves, inspired by the music of Gamble and Huff's productions in Philadelphia like MFSB and the O'Jays. At the time, soul music was becoming very unpopular, and was being slowly taken over by disco. Motown did not want to make disco music (famously avoiding the disco sound while creating Marvin Gaye's Got To Give It Up), but they finally caved in and released Space Dance in '78. However, this album is not a cash in! Many great performers are here such as Jermaine Jackson on bass, David Garibaldi from Tower of Power on drums, and the legendary David T Walker plays the guitar with style as usual.
The song 'Bad Mouthin' ' was sampled by Bob Sinclar and Thomas Bangalter in their underground french house classic 'Gym Tonic' (one of my all time favorite songs)
