\"The Maritime Brass Ensemble was formed in 1991 by local musicians in the Portsmouth area. They have performed in many concerts at various venues along the south coast. They also play for the main services during the year at Portsmouth Cathedral and St Mary's Portsea. They have been featured on BBC \"Songs of Praise\" and have recorded music for Sunday Half Hour which is broadcast on BBC Radio 2. They also do a lot of work for Portsmouth City Council playing at various functions, including the opening of the new bandstand on Southsea sea front. In May 1996 they undertook their first overseas concert tour to the Harz Mountains in N/E Germany.

The ensemble have had music specially composed for them, one being \"Thee will I love\" for brass ensemble and choir by Andrew Carter, commissioned by Portsmouth Cathedral to celebrate the consecration of the Cathedral in 1991, first performed in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Another piece arranged for them is \"Portsmouth\" (Nauticals Inc.) Ian McKenzie, which has been included on this album.\"
