Leslie Sarony - The Sizzle Of The Sausage

Playing Next: When Father Papered The Parlor - Merv Griffin and Arthur Treacher

Leslie Sarony sings about an amorous sausage calling to its mate while it is being cooked in a frying pan! Very surreal.and this was written in the days when the only LSD songwriters had for inspiration was Pounds, Shillings and Pence!

LESLIE SARONY
Vocals accompanied by studio band directed by Ronnie Munro, including Arthur Lally (bass sax), Len Shevill (guitar), Max Bacon (drums), rest unknown.

Recorded London, c.July-August 1928

E-1998 The Sizzle Of The Sausage Parlophone E-6061

In the instrumental passage, we get to hear Arthur Lally play a nice, laid back solo on bass sax - it doesn't stray far from the melody but it is tastefully executed, backed by some good guitar playing.

The composers-lyricists of this song are \"Weston, Lee and Weston\" - that is Robert Patrick Weston, his son Harris, and Bert Lee. Weston (Sr) and Lee's most successful number was \"With Her Head Tucked Underneath Her Arm\", which has been described as \"a macabre little ditty about the ghost of Anne Boleyn haunting the Tower of London, seeking revenge on Henry VIII for having her beheaded.\" Robert Weston died in 1936 and after his death his son carried on writing songs with Bert Lee, most famously \"Knees Up Mother Brown\".

The actor, comedian and music hall anthologist Roy Hudd wrote a stage show based on the songs of Robert Weston and Bert Lee called \"Just a Verse and a Chorus\". He also wrote a lengthy, authoritative article about Weston and Lee in the now defunct periodical, Theatrephile.
