Jimmy Jackson - Rollin Dice' (1976 Full Album)

Random Page  /  Random Album

Jimmy Jackson (Born August 1st, 1945 - Died April 30th, 2003) was an American funk / soul artist that is from New Haven, Connecticut. He is known to have put out a single album in 1976 on Buddah Records, released one more single in 1979, after which he disappeared from the music industry. Although his career in the spotlight was short lived, the art he was able to roll out speaks for itself.

As for the facilities used for the recording and engineering processes of this album, they are:

- Gold Star Recording Studios (The place where Phil Spector started to form his production style, not to mention where The Beach Boys, Neil Young, Buffalo Springfield, Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, The Seeds, Iron Butterfly and many more would record their seminal work)

- Connecticut Recording Studios (Mainly known for the production of the early 1970's albums of REO Speedwagon, and for recording artists like Weather Report and James Cotton)

As to why this album hasn't been reissued yet is a mystery, probably due to the fact that not too many people know about it. The master tapes (from further research) are most likely owned by Legacy Recordings, a subsidiary of Sony Music. A real gem lost to time (and most likely record company vaults), here is \"Rollin' Dice\"!

Fun Facts:

- The photographer's name that took Jimmy's pictures for the packaging is Joel Brodsky. After further research, Joel has been apart of many major albums! Here are a few:

1. The album cover to The Door's debut album, \"Strange Days\", \"The Soft Parade\"

2. The Stooges debut album & MC5's \"Kick Out The Jams\"

3. Isaac Hayes's \"The Issac Hayes Movement\", \"To Be Continued\" and \"Black Moses\"

4. The Ohio Players albums \"Pain\", \"Pleasure\", \"Ecstasy\" and \"Climax\"

5. Funkadelic albums \"Free Your Mind... And Your Ass Will Follow\" and \"Maggot Brain\"

- David T. Walker (guitarist) and Scott Edwards (bassist) both played on one of my top 5 albums of all time, Stevie Wonder's \"Innervisions\"!
